GIRLS ON FILM: PRIMITIVE LONDON (1965)

just out on dvd on the bfi's new flipside imprint, this madcap 60s [s]exploitation documentary is a must for fans of retro kitsch and swinging london (like fabulous noir author cathi unsworth who put me on to IT). first released in 1965, it's the follow-up to LONDON IN THE RAW, documenting the other other side of the first half of that decade by drinking with the kids - rockers, mods and beatniks, going down the front at soho's stripjoints and partying in the suburbs with the key-jangling swingers.

in one scene, the semi-nude leopard lady (in leggings and pasties) from the cover roars into view on stage with her animal-print-clad troupe of stripper-cats - on the prowl before being 'caged' behind bars in a high-camp display of leopard-allure. it's like an x-rated version of CATS THE MUSICAL. miow.
